Working with all the classes in the school to create a bespoke outdoor classroom experience.
The school was very keen to look for new ways of encouraging the staff and pupils to use their outdoor space for curriculum activities.
Working in collaboration with 3 artists, we ran workshops, with a small group of pupils from each year and their class teacher, that looked at the specific curriculum needs of the different key stages.
From this we were able to formulate ideas for a series of artworks that linked different subject areas from weather and the seasons through to orienteering and maths.
The artist team designed and built a recycled brick and found object monster, a series of thermo plastic playground activities and some cast stone artifacts.
One of the most important aspects of the project was engaging the teachers in creative thinking that explored new ways of conducting their lessons outdoors.
