Arts Award - Stockport Central Library
A 16 week course at Stockport Central Library where I worked with an inspirational group of young people, age 10-23 on a creative journey towards gaining an Arts Award qualification.
As part of the course the young people have shared a range of skills with the rest of the group including creating cartoon characters, stop motion animation, origami and exploring light and shade in portraits.
The trailer below was created by 2 of the group.
We also went to see Joana Vasconcelos's exhibition, Time Machine at Manchester City Gallery. It was an inspiration event, a first time experience for one of the group. The response from the young people varied with some loving the extravagant explosion of colour and fun and others finding it too much glamour and glitz, with one commenting, " at the end of the day she's just stuck some big feathers on a helicopter."
I have been involved in creating an Arts Trail for Stockport, working with Stockport Youth Offending Service and Public Health. As part of the trail I worked with this group to create a series of artworks that have been located on lampposts along the route. Each person was given a line of text, gathered from local residents, that they could illustrate in any way they chose.

The final exhibition was an opportunity for the young people to share their work with their parents and visitors to the library.
